Some say 16-0 as a curse, but I see it as a possible need.
Mid way through the season and the Pittsburgh Steelers are the lone undefeated team left standing in the NFL. Some only outlets have posed the question of how long this can last. But a questioned more important than that has been whether or not the Steelers can hang on to the top seed in the AFC.
The 2020 season also marks the start of the new payoff format allowing seven teams from either conference to participate. To count for the extra team the NFL removed the bye week from the team finishing in second place in the division. In years past Steelers fans would have no doubt embraced this rule change, as the Steelers would have made the playoffs the past two seasons as the seven seed.
This year is much different however. The Steelers are very much in play for the number one overall seed and the lone playoff bye week in the AFC. They control their own playoff destiny and simply by winning can ensure they get another week off in January. For a team that was forced into a Week 4 bye week a couple days rest would surely be welcomed. The problem is the reigning champions, the Kansas City Chiefs are hot on the Steelers heels. With an 8-1 record, if the Steelers are to only lose just one game down the back stretch they might miss out on the top seed.

Not to mention home field advantage in this years playoffs will be a huge factor. On top of this would you want the Steelers to play host to a possible AFC Championship game with the Chiefs, or would you rather the game be played in arrowhead stadium? That’s what I thought.
So, much like the first half of the season the Steelers will need to focus on just winning the game that is in front of them. But with an eye to the playoffs winning feels like its the only option.
What do you think? Will the Steelers need to win out to earn the top seed in the AFC playoffs? Let us know why/why not down I the comments below.
